Did I just destroy my PS1?
OK, so this is what happened:

I found a method to play *cough*homebrew*cough* on the PS1 without using a modchip, which involved swapping two disks in a certain way.

It worked the first time, but the second time I tried it I noticed a small metal ball in the Playstation. Just after I notice that it's missing from the CD motor it rolls into the PS1.

Um...

That's either one of the metal thingies from the CD holder, or one of the bearings from the motor. The rotor rests on a ball bearing. Try fiddling with the rotor to see if it see-saws or is otherwise unbalanced. In any case, it's fixable, but you should try to find the ball and maybe slot it back into place. Without the ball, the drive might be unbalanced and could wreck the laser because the CD might start wobbling as it spins.

Of course, that's the worst case scenario, it could be that the PS1 will work just fine without it, but I wouldn't advise risking it.

I think it's a bearing from the motor. And also, I tried running a game on it, and it worked.

Thanks for the advice though. I'd better find that bearing.

UPDATE:

I found the bearing. The problem now is to get it in place. When I put it in, it rolls out again.

Any ideas?

Re: Did I just destroy my PS1?
The bearings on my one popped out years ago and it worked perfectly for years afterwards. The bearings are only really there to make sure the discs stay in place. They normally stay in fine without them, they're like extra insurance.

There probably is a small chance that it could possibly have a detrimental effect on the drive/discs but it's never happened to anyone I know.
