Ok, so with all the talk of PC vs consoles lately, I'd like to get some suggestions for the most visually impressive PC game out that is also fun and an overall good game. I'd like to leave the console vs PC debate out of this, please.

My computer is a quad core AMD Phenom 2.3ghz, 4gb RAM, nVidia GT220 1gb, wide screen monitor... If there's other info you'd like, just ask. Basically, I want to push this rig a little and see what it can do. So far, nothing I've thrown at it as slowed it down. I tried the Cameron's Avatar, and at max settings, it was real pretty, and ran very well... But it's not that totally interesting of a game. So I want something that looks AND plays exceptionally well.

So, sports games are out... RTS is only a so-so... MMORPGs are too time sucking... I love FPS, racing, RPG, music games... I'm sure I missed something. If possible, I'd like something that's not available on a console, although that rule can be easily changed if it has to be.

So what do you think fits this for me?
crysis.

i honestly can't say that i have played it (i only have a 3 year old laptop) but i hear it is good and it will push your rig.
Crysis is visually impressive, but fun it is not.

I'll give you some recommendations after my finals today, but don't go into Crysis expecting to have a blast, especially considering you said you like tightly knit single player experiences.
Crysis 2 (when it comes out that is)
Okay, we are dealing with pc games that are new, released, and look good, I'll try to list the best of the genres from the past 2 years only:

Shattered Horizon (FPS, Multiplayer, Directx 10 only, won't work on XP, $15 Steam (This weekend only))
Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/escala...izon/58509

Probably the most visually advanced multiplayer game currently out for the PC, Shattered Horizon lets you fight in space in 360x3 degrees of movement. Rollan, fightan, shootan, nadan. Plus it just got a free content pack out today that adds 8 new weapons/nades to the game.

Even with that 220 you won't get max settings and full AA though. Tongue

Sins of a Solar Empire Complete (Space RTS, SP Skirmish/Multiplayer, $30 Impulse)

Probably the best Space RTS out since Homeworld 1 and 2, Sins of a Solar Empire is a blast. You can zoom from a single ship to the whole galaxy map seamlessly and it has intelligent features to allow you to manage your forces and empire. The complete is due to it have 2 expansions.

Audiosurf (Music/Rhythm Based, Singleplayer/Leaderboards, $10 Steam)

If you like Rhythm games then Audiosurf is the end all. What started out as an Amplitude clone evolved into a game that makes it's own levels and tracks based on YOUR mp3's. Just load up an mp3 in the ingame browser and ride to your music, it's awesome. Also check out Beat Hazard if you want MUSICAL ASTEROIDS.

As for Racing, damn, you missed a sale of the best racing games in a pack for 80% off.

I would recommend Dirt2, GRID, and FUEL (all were in the pack for 80% off). At least until the next GTR comes out.

And for more, ah screw it, I've got the worst final tomorrow, here's a wiki of the best games:

http://vsrecommendedgames.wikia.com/wiki/PC

I wish people would stop recommending Crysis, it's a badly optimized, outdated piece of crap.

I had the pleasure of trying the new Cryengine though, and it blows the older one away, both in terms of performance, capability, and optimization, I expect to see a lot more than ONE GOOD MOD for the next CryEngine (by the way that ONE GOOD MOD for Crysis's Cryengine is Mechwarrior: Living Legends, and it's a fucking blast).
Devil may cry 4,Resident evil 5,Just Cause 2,BioShock 2,Prototype,Fuel if you like simulation racing,Fallout 3- hybrid rpg/fps also have 3rd person,Mass effect 1 or 2,Left4dead 2,GTA 4,Batman: Arkham Asylum and Far cry 2.BioShock and Just Cause 2 is the only games i listed that i haven't play but look interesting.
Thanks for the suggestions, Ender.... I was looking for ... erm ... cheaper games to experiment with before I actually ya know .... pay for them. ^_^ If I find something I like, I'll pay proper for it. ^_^ I've heard a lot of good about a

Just about all of those ... no wait, ALL of those are also on console. They're good suggestions, for the most part, but I'm looking for something unique that will REALLY push my PC, and not just look as good as my Xbox or PS3.

Just for future reference, I've already beat Arkham Asylum (DAMN good game) and BioShock... I didn't care much for L4D, but it was fun for a bit. DMC4 was a bit wishy washy for me.....

Only ones worth playing on pc instead of consoles are left 4 dead 2 and Fallout 3 due to mods, the rest just have no added benefit other than improved textures due to no modding systems.

As for getting a game for the sole purpose of pushing your pc, look at shattered horizon that I mentioned earlier.

It's probably the only graphically intensive game that is actually good.

Unfortunately graphics do not equal gameplay, so you won't find too many GREAT games by hunting solely for graphics.

But the rest of this year is incredibly promising so I would wait if I were you.

That being said Shattered Horizon is only 15 bucks this weekend, buy it already, and you won't find a better music game on the pc than Audiosurf, or a better racing game than GRID. Really the wiki I linked is your best bet, use gametrailers to learn more about each game on there that catches your fancy.

And remember, the best games for the PC have already been out for a while.

*Goes back to replaying Deus Ex, XCOM, and Freelancer whilst cramming for exams*
I understand that graphics don't = gameplay, which is why I wanted something fun as well. But I've had this powerhouse of a computer not doing so much for quite some time, which is why I'm looking to push it a bit.
the witcher

Is the Witcher graphically impressive? I'm not a graphics whore, I'm just looking to push my PC to see what it can REALLY do and where it falls behind... And hoping I can do that with an enjoyable game as well.
There are 2 versions ,The witcher and The witcher Enhanced Edition and to me the graphics isn't all that even on max settings, but its good but not any realism to it.The Enhanced Edition was released 2008, the sequel coming next year.
it's not bioshock or AC2 or crysis pretty, but it looks pretty good when everything's turned on.

google could probably show you.
Well, holy crap... I now have Left 4 Dead 2 and Torchlight on Steam. I guess I'll be busy for a while!

Steam ID: lunasaisho
while excellent games, neither of those could be called graphical powerhouses.

True, but it will keep me busy... The games were gifts... I have L4D2 set to highest settings and silky smooth. That's nice. I'm still interested in something to really push it, but I have more then enough to keep me busy for a while.

Fixed my headset problems (one reason consoles are so nice... Or at least Xbox, PS3 is annoying with headsets too). Seems that Win 7 had a non existent audio input set for my default mic. Odd that voice worked in the lobby, but not the game, but we're all set now. Thanks, Google. ^_^
Well if you still want something to really push it, Shattered horizon is still 5 bucks off. I still recommend it, it's a blast.
I'll look into that one. I'm worn out from 3 hours in my lousy computer chair killing zombie after zombie after zombie after zombie after zombie after zombie.... etc. ^_^

*looks into Shattered Horizon*

Edit: FUTUREMARK? Wow, I never knew they made an actual game, outside of 3D Mark demo games. It's very high on my hitlist, thanks!
you know how to puch your pc open 4 games ALT+TAB them while they in gameplay ^U^
